What If Every Child Had a Safe Space to Dream?
On May 24th, something truly special took root, not just an initiative, but a movement. Over coffee, laughter, and heartfelt conversation, a room full of incredible individuals gathered to celebrate the official launch of KIKinitiative.
We set out to do more than share a vision; we created space to reflect on the power of safe play, the importance of belonging, and what it means to give back with intention. It was our first step toward building healing-centered, community-designed spaces for children and families, starting in Côte d'Ivoire.
We opened with a mission video that painted a vivid picture: the contrast between unsafe, forgotten spaces where children often play, and the kinds of joyful, restorative environments every child deserves. We talked about: the ripple effect that unsafe play environments have on entire families. The bold vision of KIKinitiative is to build safe, creative spaces for children that also support parents and spark collective healing.
Our first project: a community-designed space in Bonoua, Côte d'Ivoire.
“This isn’t just about playgrounds,” said our founder, Heloise Ahoure. “It’s about restoring dignity, sparking joy, and nurturing connection, one space, one story, one community at a time.”
The real magic of the morning came from the conversations. Friends, many meeting for the first time, shared personal reflections on their own experience with play growing up, the reality today, and the kind of impact they want to be part of.
" I was excited to be part of the KIKinitiative's inaugural round table. What I didn't expect was the connection and passion that filled the room. The mission of KIK is not only necessary for the current moment but will shape the mental wellness and social capabilities of our next generation. I left the chat feeling activated to champion the cause and do whatever I can to move the mission forward"

As we launch KIKinitiative, we’re thrilled to announce our very first project, the complete rehabilitation and expansion of the playground at Padre Pio Orphanage in Bonoua, Côte d’Ivoire. This orphanage is home to 69 incredible children, yet its current play area is unsafe, outdated, and only serves kids under age 7. We believe play should be accessible to every child, no matter their age or circumstance. That’s why we’re transforming the space into an inclusive, age-appropriate, and safe haven where all children, from toddlers to teens, can grow, heal, and simply be kids.
This is the first step in our mission to create safe and inspiring spaces across Africa where children and communities can thrive together.
This launch was just the beginning. We are now inviting others to walk with us as partners, donors, storytellers, and vision holders.
We’re calling them Founding Friends, those who join us early to help lay the foundation (literally and figuratively) for what KIKinitiative will become.
If you’re interested in learning more, joining our updates, or becoming a Founding Friend, join our mailing list below to stay connected.
Thank you to everyone who showed up, shared openly, and gave with your hearts. You helped us start strong and we’re only just getting started.
With deep gratitude,
The KIKinitiative Team
